Talking about connections, Francesca is a member of a very popular Italian community on Facebook we are both part of (Socialgnock if you want to check it out).
Some time ago, I shared the story behind this blog and one of the feedbacks I got, was from her. When the Bigger Plans Project was on its way, I decided I should have as many Italian brands as possible, and Francesca put her genius at our service and personally decorated the black t-shirt Zazel is wearing for the Bigger Plans Project Video.
I am so honored and pleased, to be able to enlist some interesting and forward-thinking Italian brands among the exceptional sponsors of The Bigger Plans Project, Lachi and I decided to put our time and passion into.
As always, enjoy the read and choose “Zazel’s T-shirt” for a meaningful celebrity piece, to give for Christmas!
WHO IS FRANCESCA MITOLO?
Hello! Nice to meet you [she laughs].
I’m a sustainable fashion designer and activist.
WHY DID YOU START YOUR BRAND?
I worked in consulting firms for many years, mainly for women’s denim and sportswear collections both in Italy and Spain.
I have some firsthand experience of the migration of production processes from Italy to China, India, and Turkey, in a race to lower production costs for the sole purpose of maximizing profit.
While working as a consultant in Spain, I had the opportunity of working extensively with a local brand. It was during that time that I started thinking about making something on my own, combining my personal and professional experiences, and shining a light to show others, the increasingly distorted mechanisms of fast fashion. I self-financed the project and, in January 2013, I launched teeshare, combining sustainable fashion and art.
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT IT?
teeshare is based on the concept of sharing. Sharing is more than a good intention: it’s actually our fundamental trait. Among my goals, I always list production transparency, that recognises and understands the value, of the people involved in the project.
HOW DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE FASHION INDUSTRY?
Sustainability is a process, it starts with reflections and actions devoted to sharing, researching and shaping the future.
For this reason in 2018 I co-founded Rén Collective, a cultural movement that inspires, informs and promotes sustainability, raising the collective awareness and encouraging its spreading through every single person involved.
DO YOU SELL WORLDWIDE OR HOW CAN CUSTOMERS BUY YOUR CLOTHES?
teeshare has an online shop, www.teeshare.com that allows worldwide shipping!
We also give each customer the opportunity of personalizing their own order: and we show them how! I like the idea of making customised t-shirts for people with a unique personality.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO SPONSOR THE BIGGER PLANS PROJECT MUSIC VIDEO?
Lachi is an ardent advocate of inclusivity, and gives voice to disabled people rights through her media channels. The reason why I chose to sponsor the video came easy: Lachi’s incredible vision of inclusiveness is the one that best represents me and teeshare, too.
WHAT SPECIAL GIFTS ARE YOU PROPOSING FOR XMAS 2020?
Well, in honor to Zazel and Lachi I would like more and more people to be able to wear their own handpainted polka dots tee!
FUTURE PLANS?
Follow the flow! No plan is the plan!
