HOW DID THE IDEA OF A SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE BAG COLLECTION COME TO YOUR MIND?

The McArthurGlen Group’s DNA has a strong sensitivity to the most important social and environmental issues. Our company philosophy has always been very inclusion and talent-oriented: starting from our team, going through our sales staff and obviously ending up to the communities in which we operate and try to support on an ongoing basis through different actions.
Environmental sustainability, on the other hand, is a growing mission in recent years that determines an increasingly all-encompassing management approach embracing the whole life of our outlets and is becoming a development model for us. This approach has obviously inspired all our marketing and communication activities.

WHY THIS NAME: #BACKTOLIFE?

Back to life has precisely the original meaning of returning to life.
It speaks about the materials used and of course the amazing people who took part in the project. Additionally, in this very specific historical period, this theme acquires even more relevance and brings the hope of a real rebirth with it.

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES THAT MAKE YOUR PIECES UNIQUE, SUSTAINABLE AND SOCIALLY INCLUSIVE, COMPARED WITH WHAT ALREADY EXISTS ON THE MARKET?

These bags are truly unique pieces, handmade one by one by the guests of the S Pio X Family House in Venice under the guidance of the designer Carla Plessi and her team. The bags are different and rich of those imperfections that all of us have making us as unique as we are; these bags also speak about the extraordinary life, often marked with grief and hard challenges. The fabrics, leathers and materials used were donated by some Italian companies that embraced the project together with McArthurGlen and therefore offered warehouse stocks, samples and dead stock which were then dismembered and cut according to the logic of upcycling.

CAN YOU SHARE YOUR GREATEST SUCCESS AND YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES?

Surely the interest of the partner companies moved us. An email, sometimes just a phone call, was enough to make them fall in love with our idea and act immediately to donate all the necessary materials. Juki for sewing machines, Lardini, Miroglio, Peserico, Rubelli, Presot tanneries are just some of the brands that have share their availability and altruism. The attention of the national and Venetian press, with over 60 publications, also exceeded our expectations bringing clients from all over.
There have been challenges, because training people for a new job is neither easy nor fast. But we can for sure say, it was an unforgettable experience for everyone.

WHERE DO YOU SELL AND WHO IS YOUR TARGET?

Backtolife had a special place in our center in Noventa di Piave, in May 2021, inside a temporary store. Now sales, continue online successfully.

Yes, of course, upon payment by bank transfer.

ALL BAGS HAVE THE SAME PRICE - WHY THIS DECISION?

€ 250 is the price for each single bag, no matter what the materials used are, that in some cases are of extraordinary excellence and rarity. All proceeds (excluding the fixed costs) are entirely destined to the Family Home. We believe this donation is really needed.

Surely. We got so passionate about this project, that it won’t end there. Beyond Backtolife, the sensitive spirit of our company will still lead us to seek out new opportunities. We will work on actions that will give value to our territory and people and always inspire beauty and positivity.
